I'm looking for an application to play my mp3 audio books on macOS 11.5. On an older system, I was using ecoute, but this does not seem to work under macOS 11.5.

Required features:

  • resume the current playlist/book from the timestamp when I last closed the application

  • can be controlled via the play/previous/next media buttons on the keyboard even if another application is in the foreground

  • keeps playing even if the window of the application is closed

Bonus points:

  • for free/open source software

  • if it can deal with my existing .m3u playlists
